About Us

We are a Pre Kindergarten through 5th grade public school and part of the Lawton Public School system located in southwest Oklahoma. We are fortunate to also have the U. S. Army post of Fort Sill as part of our community. Hugh Bish has a very large military child attendance, around 48% of the school population. We have three nationally trained Military Child Coalition staff members too.
Our school mascot is the Knight.
Our school colors are orange and green.

The mission of the Hugh Bish staff is to instill a love of learning and provide a nurturing environment where students will demonstrate academic growth to sustain proficiency in all academic areas while the staff models and promotes strong character traits in students to prepare them to become successful, career bound citizens.

Hugh Bish is a Blue Ribbon school
Today, the Blue Ribbon Schools Program serves three purposes. First, it identifies and recognizes outstanding public and private schools across the nation. Second, the Program makes research-based effectiveness criteria available to all schools so that they can assess themselves and plan improvements. Third, the Program encourages schools, both within and among themselves, to share information about best practices based on a common understanding of criteria related to educational success. Blue Ribbon Schools are models of both excellence and equity. To be recognized, a school must demonstrate a strong commitment to educational excellence for all students.

The Program welcomes applications from schools that have demonstrated sustained success in achieving these values, as well as schools that have overcome obstacles and can provide evidence of significant improvements.

Because the safety of our children is of the utmost importance to us all, children should not arrive at the school building before 8:40 a.m. unless they are eating breakfast which is served at 8:45 a.m. and is a Universal FREE BREAKFAST for all Hugh Bish students. Students NOT eating breakfast at school will enter the building at 8:45 a.m. Students arriving after 9:10 a.m. will be counted as tardy and must have a pass from the office to enter classrooms.

If your child is going to be late or absent, please call the office at 580-248-2244 before 9:15 a.m. on that day. Children picked up before 3:55 p.m. must be checked out through the office and a photo ID is required as is the person picking up the student must be on the enrollment card as being authorized to do so. Students should be picked up promptly at 3:55 p.m.

Please remember, a picture ID is required to pick up a student and the person picking up the student MUST previously be listed on the enrollment card.

We use student planners at Hugh Bish. These planners are used to help students learn organization skills, track their own school work, keep a list of spelling words, upcoming test and other events, as a reference of the day’s work accomplishments, and as a daily communication tool between home and school. The planners we use are available ONLY at our school for a small cost of $5.00 each. See the office staff to purchase one.

Hugh Bish School Song:
Written by Mr. Bruce Brown, retired Music teacher from Hugh Bish Elementary.

We are the knights of Robin Hood’s land.
Gallant, brave, and strong we stand.
Nowhere in all the world around, can a finer school be found.
Orange and green our colors bright.
With brotherhood our hearts unite.
So let’s work together; it’s our best rule.
Cheering loud and long for Hugh Bish School.
